Let me tell you why Bruegger's can up their game: 1. The cream cheese application process on each and every bagel is terrible. They INAPPROPRIATELY spread their cream cheese. You take a bite of your toasted goodness on your way to class, and the cream cheese squeezes out the side and it's just annoying. Also annoying: most of it ends up in the hole in the middle of the bagel. I don't have a solution for this problem, but I don't own a bagel store. It still tastes good, but it adds an irritation to my morning when I have to use my finger to appropriately spread my cream cheese. 2. Oh, you want a breakfast bagel with egg cheese and bacon on an asiago bagel? great! you want it toasted? nope. They won't toast your asiago bagel. They won't do it. Why not, Bruegger's? Einstein's would do it for me. We are college students who have 3 dollars in our bank account and when we splurge and buy an asiago breakfast bagel to treat ourselves to something pleasant on the way to a terrible organic chemistry lecture, we'd like it to be toasted. We'd also like our cream cheese to be spread appropriately throughout the bagel so we don't have to use our hands. Throw out your B- game Bruegger's, and bring your A game to the plate.

I love Bruegger's food, but am continuously disappointed by the North University location. They used to have the same people working in there every day, and they knew what they were doing. But in the last year it seems like they have A LOT of staff overturning. They make assumptions that screw up my food. I order an Egg and Cheese on an Asiago bagel and they automatically throw it in the toaster, without asking. I do not want it toasted (not to mention that they used to say that they COULDN'T toast the Asiago). Multiple times I have ordered a Coke, and because I am an in shape female, they assume I meant Diet and give me Diet. If possible, go to the Brueggers on S. Main. Much more competent staff, and the food is better.

The finest asiago bagel I've ever had. I know the north east boasts the best in all things bagels (something in the water?). I've had my share of bagels from that side of the land and they are indeed the best. BUT my statement stands as such. For an asiago, Ann Arbor's Bruegger's is on top. Ok it is possible that the one bagel that I had was a rare jewel and it was just a one time thing. But it's good enough to convince me that I'll be going back for another chance at asiago perfection.

They have a good special on Wednesdays for a baker's dozen of bagels for 5.99, not sure if this promotion is still going on. Their bagels are great, and the people working there are nice :).

Alright. I know it's a chain. I know it's boring. I know it's a place my mom would take me. HOWEVER, the one, small, lovely item that keeps me coming here is the: Jalapeno Cheddar Bagel w/ Egg White I warn you, it's addictive and may heavily alter your state of mind about what you've been missing your entire adult breakfast life. Wi-fi is okay. Location is superb.

"Hi, welcome to Bruegger's. We're incredibly understaffed even when there are only four customers here, so you'll have to wait in line for 10 minutes until we can get to you. Alright. Oh, you're here for lunch? Well, for $8 you can get a decent, albeit incredibly small sandwich and a drink. Cool, you want that? You've got it. Alright now, uh, um, hmm; I'm going to go search for lettuce in the back for about 3 minutes. You just sit tight again. Alright, so is this for here or to-go? If you choose here, there are a few tables by the counter that haven't been bussed in the last 4 hours; if you like eating in someone else's crumbs, those will work out great. Oh, the seating upstairs? Yeah, it's just as buck nasty up there too. Oh, you want this to-go then? Alright, then your total for this tiny bagel sandwich and 16 oz fountain drink will be $7.84. Take care, thanks for stopping by." No. I have to admit that my sandwich was pretty good, but it wasn't great. Although my sandwich will earn Bruegger's an additional star, the service was abysmally slow, the food was far too expensive, and they didn't seem to like the idea of bussing their tables.

Not bad bagels. Too bad it's hard to park nearby. PS: for history buffs: this was the site of the very famous and much loved Drake's candy, ice cream, and sandwich shop, in business for at least 60 years, never changed its 1930s decor (and for its last few years, never changed the aging candy corn in the shop window).

The bagels here are quite decent. I love bagels and I'm not too picky about them (as long as they're not dry, cold, or fennel-covered, I'm sold). That said, I'm love holing myself up here with a warm bagel and raspberry cream cheese. Food-aside, this is a good place to study. Quiet and pretty cozy.

I've been here twice and both times I've had bagels that weren't by any stretch of the imagination good. Maybe it's just a fluke, but paying almost 3 dollars a bagel for something that doesnt taste good isn't worth another visit.

I am quite the fan of Bruegger's Bagels and this location delivers on the quality bagels, cream cheese, and coffee you expect from this chain. The upstairs seating area is very comfortable and on the Sunday morning, I went in very quiet and clean. However, the staff seemed rattled by the line and made several mistakes on our order. Although they compensated by not charging us for the bagels they made incorrectly, I was still disappointed since I am used to much better service at the other locations I have visited.

I was really torn about how to rate Bruegger's, in the kind of way that you are torn when trying to choose between trident and dentine. In most of the ways that matter, there is nothing especially bad or good about the choice, but when you think too much about it, all sorts of normally irrelevant details seem really important. In terms of food it ts a bagel place, interchangeable with most other bagel places in the world. In fact, I think that the bagels here are actually quite decent. They are not quite the quintessential bagel you would expect if you have spent any time in Montreal or New York (the kind that is not quite imitated by Zingerman's), but they are closer to this on the bagel continuum than their nearest neighbor (Panera): Bruegger's bagels are boiled and do not have that annoying "bready" texture that fagle (fake bagels) often have. What they put on the bagels is generally so-so. Your best bet is probably the freshest, warmest bagels they have and a side of cream cheese or butter... Taking a step back and considering the business as a whole, I feel ambivalent because on one hand, they have an excellent space upstairs (lots of bright light) that is perfect for studying (free wifi) and the staff are all really friendly. They also have an awesome coffee club card. You pay 120 in late Oct/early Nov and you get bottomless coffee and softdrinks for fourteen months. If you need to walk at all near this place on your way to school/work this is a really good deal that is worth investing in. The coffee is not great but it is passable morning fuel - on par with Espresso Royale and far better than Starbucks and lets be honest, there is a certain beauty to the logic of a bottomless cup coffee card that makes you feel prepared to face nearly any crisis. The biggest con here is simply the service. The staff are nice, but the store layout seems to prevent efficient work - people seem to be tripping over each other and there is no obvious system to how sandwiches get made. Thus the line moves in fits and starts and is always backed up in the morning rush. It is hard to predict how much time your order will take. Although they have gotten better with this, they also seem to run out of coffee with alarming frequency, which further slows things down. Newsflash: you will sell coffee on Monday morning, so invest in a system where you can actually tell you are running low, and brew more in advance when it seems like you are running out. tldr: bagels better than Panera but sandwiches worse. Nice space and people, but service takes longer than it has to.

Bagels are good, and the smoked salmon cream cheese is tasty, but every time I go in there the workers are more interested in their cell phones than doing their jobs. Today, I waited a full minute and a half before the girl behind the counter even noticed me, and I was standing right in front of her.

I would not recommend coming here. It is not a great place for bagels. But it is the A-OK place for bagels in Ann Arbor. I have not found anything better. Zingermans bagels are always hard as rocks. I once dropped a bag of zingermans bagels on my foot and broke two bones in my toes.

I went to Bruegger's this morning with a group of people, and it is a great place to meet and chat. Up stairs they have a long table, which is great for groups. However, despite the great customer service and atmosphere; the bagels are just okay. I was a little disappointed with my bagel. In a way wish I had just gotten a bagel from Panera next door.
(2)
Peggah G.
I love Bruegger's. I love their square bagels and their breakfast bagels with muenster cheese. While the prices are comparable to Panera next door, I always choose Bruegger's. Their breakfast bagels are available til they close, which is great because eggs, bacon, and cheese on a bagel is always a good! Also, they have poppy seed bagels. And another also, Michael Phelps used to come here. It's true. I saw him drive his BMW to this location for breakfast. If an Olympian eats here, then you know you should, too.

I got a egg cheddar bagel breakfast sandwich early in the morning, and overall, it was a decent sandwich. I wish the cheese were a bit more melted, or the bagel a bit more toasted, but it was okay in a pinch. 'twas nothing fancy. Next time I think I'll try some of that fancy cream cheese. I think I'd go here again, but I prefer Panera Bread.

I come for two things: coffee when I run out at home, and a bagel with lox if I'm REALLY craving one on my way to class or work. Neither are particularly awesome, but service is quick and the prices are very fair. Sometimes they throw in a flavored coffee like maple, pumpkin, etc.. I'm not hugely into these, but options are always nice. I feel bad about giving it a lower rating, because the employees at most of the locations are phenomenal. Really friendly and funny. They don't make up for the fact that the food and drinks are far from special, though.

Asiago cheese bagels are why I keep coming back. MMM. Their secret weapon is the coffee card (unlimited coffee/pop/tea for ~$10/month). If you work or have class nearby, it's great for stopping in at weird hours when you need a pick-me-up jolt. It also gets you discounts on food. The coffee is pretty decent. Take your food upstairs; they have nice couches and tables with a sunny window overlooking campus. A hidden gem for studying and people-watching. Service is slow but the staff is friendly.
